Dr Susan Faron – Emma Jung and the Wise Old Woman Spirit

Where does Wise Old Woman spirit reside and to what two of her qualities does Jung refer as the “missing opposites” so needed in the world today?

Introduction of a New Book:

The Wise Old Woman Spirit – Help as a Partnership

In this book, I explore Jung’s and von Franz’s work on the archetype of the Wise Old Man and carry it forward to where we need it most: to the Wise Old Woman spirit (WOW spirit), a vital part of the human psyche that is critically needed in the world. Why? Because as an aspect of the feminine divine, this wisdom spirit requires the engagement of us humans in order to save humankind from self-extinction. Jung observed that the complexio oppositorum—the combination of opposites contained in the god-image—is missing in our consciousness today, namely, the WOW spirit’s remarkable qualities of eros and emptiness.

Emma Jung and Wise Old Woman Spirit

Tonight’s webinar furthers the above exploration by an interview with Andreas Jung, grandson of C.G. and Emma Jung, wife and analyst herself, and reveals Emma’s life as the quintessential expression of the WOW spirit. Emma’s model is then deepened by an imago, or reexperiencing, of the WOW spirit’s visit to a man from India. Further still in our depths, you’ll hear about how increasing integration of the feminine principle reveals itself in its peace-making role. The Wise Old Woman spirit offers a feminine way of peacemaking, provoking and stimulating our imaginations.

The Wise Old Woman spirit brings Great Good Fortune.

The WOW spirit Bears Great Hope.

How might you imagine Emma Jung’s life expressing the spirit of the Wise Old Woman?

About the speaker:

Dr Susan K Faron is a psychologist, author, lecturer, Diplomate Jungian Analyst, and graduate of the Research and Training Centre for Depth Psychology according to C.G. Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz, Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Faron has been in private analytic practice since 1983, specializing in dream interpretation in the context of development toward wholeness or individuation… all that we’re meant to be. Dr. Faron’s current attention is on what Jung describes as the “missing opposites” in human functioning, eros and emptiness, qualities unique to the feminine principle and a developmental part of every man, woman or other. Dr. Faron has lectured at the San Francisco Analytical Psychology Club and presented internationally in other forums. She’s written seven unpublished manuscripts in addition to her 2023 book, The Wise Old Woman Spirit – Help as a Partnership (11-1-23).  Dr. Faron first became conscious of the wisdom woman remembering a 2010 dream about “being in a test,” realizing many years later that she had had numerous unconscious encounters with the WOW spirit. Today, her goal is to reveal stories about the Wise Old Woman spirit told by “dream witnesses,” enlivening the partnerships so vital for our survival, indeed, for existence itself.
