The Chinese Tragedy of King Lear

The author teaches English at Johns Hopkins University and has produced an original reading of King Lear drawing parallels with her own life and 20th century history. The five chapters are entitled Tales, History, Tragedy, Comedy, and Romance. She uses the lens of the play to revisit the epoch of Maoist China in terms of its impact on people and storytelling. It is a moving testimony.
