Dr William Bloom – Polyvagal Theory and the Soul’s Journey

Over the last decades there has been a profound growth in our understanding of human physiology and the science of good health. But how is all this relevant to a mystic and esoteric approach to life? In this session William will assert that there is an intimate connection between this new physiology, altered states of consciousness and ancient descriptions of our soul’s journey and purpose.

He will explore how this new physiology parallels prophesies and insights to be found in many mystic and metaphysical traditions including Vedic philosophy, Theosophy, Taoism, Tantra and esoteric Christianity.

In particular, William suggests that it is worth noting the trajectory of consciousness studies in the past half century. It begins with brain states. Then it moves down into awareness of the heart and breath. And most recently this science lands in the enteric nervous system, the gut brain. All of them integrated by the vagus nerve. Both as a metaphor and biological reality we may be looking at the global process of the soul’s incarnation and embodiment.
