Michael Jawer An Emotional Universe

Michael Jawer – An Emotional Universe?  Sentience, Panpsychism and the Paranormal

What if sentience is fundamental?

For thousands of years, philosophers have speculated that the universe may be conscious. The idea – variously known as panpsychism, panexperientialism, or cosmopsychism – is making a comeback today.  Leading neuroscientists and cognitive philosophers are its newest advocates.   However, nearly all of them view consciousness as a product of the neocortex.

What if consciousness is not solely brain-based, and what if  sentience  is the more fundamental property to consider?  How would this alter the prospects for panpsychism? Michael Jawer, a Washington, D.C.-based writer and researcher, suspects not only that creatures’ capacity to  feel  underlies consciousness but that many kinds of psi phenomena – such as apparitions, poltergeists, telesomatic experiences, and synchronicities – can be seen to illustrate the workings of a feeling cosmos.
