The Wuhan Cover-Up

In Voltaire’s satirical story about the giant Zadig, the narrator is looking down on Earth from a great height with Zadig, explaining to him that the two armies below are fighting over a small piece of land. Zadig thinks this absurd, and asks if he should put his foot down to stamp out the armies, to which the narrator memorably replies that there is no need, since ‘they are working hard enough at their own destruction.’ This observation might also be applied to the content of this book on the bioweapons arms race that goes back in its serious form to wartime Japan and Germany, although they had already been deployed in World War I. This book is the follow-up to RFK Jr’s The Real Anthony Fauci, which sold over 1 million copies despite not being reviewed in any mainstream publication. Rather the reverse: any mention of Kennedy is only for the purpose of uninformed character assassination. Many readers may indeed not be aware that he is running the most successful ever campaign for President as an independent. A recent Zogby nationwide poll of 26,000 likely voters showed the following results in a two-way race: Trump vs Biden, Trump wins comfortably; Trump vs Kennedy, Kennedy wins in a close race; Biden vs Kennedy, Kennedy wins in a landslide. Moreover, he is leading in national polls among the under 35s. Labels do not define his values-driven campaign.

To call the book an eye-opener would be an understatement. It is meticulously documented, with 100 pages of notes and references. After World War 2, the US secretly recruited Japanese and German scientists who had been engaged in national bioweapons research, initiating a culture of secrecy that has lasted ever since. A declassified CIA monograph stated that ‘Priority was accorded to atomic energy, biological warfare, chemical warfare, electronic warfare, guided missiles, aircraft, undersea warfare and medicine.’ (p. 39) A three-way partnership was developed between Big Pharma, the intelligence agencies, and the Pentagon, including the public health agencies – CDC, NIH and crucially NIAID under Dr Anthony Fauci. Biosecurity became a top priority following the terror and anthrax attacks of 2001, using the cover of dual use (biodefence-bioweapons) as a way of sidestepping the Biological Weapons Treaty of 1989. It is important to understand that the development of bioweapons is inextricably tied to the parallel development of vaccines to protect troops. Hence, ‘vaccine research often serves as a cover or rationale for illegal bioweapons development.’ (p. 71) The man who drafted the 1989 treaty, Francis Boyle, estimates that there are 13,000 scientists working on bioweapons within the US government and in government-supported university posts. (p. 256)

From a security point of view, it might seem astonishing that gain-of-function research to enhance the virulence and transmissibility of viruses should be outsourced to the Wuhan Lab in China effectively controlled by the Chinese military and Communist Party. This might make more sense knowing that the main conduit for this research was EcoHealth, whose director Dr Peter Daszak was recruited by the CIA in 2016. One of his 2017 journal articles (p. 303) already documents that ‘three novel SARSr-CoVs can use the human ACE2 as a cellular entry receptor…all viruses replicated efficiently in the human ACE2-expressing cells.’ These are bioweapons by any other name. In the US, the most well-known researcher is Dr Ralph Baric of the University of North Carolina, who has received around $200m in funding over the past several decades. Even before Congress, Dr Anthony Fauci has claimed that none of the research he funded was gain-of-function - this book manifestly proves the contrary, also showing how he circumvented the Obama moratorium. (pp. 132 ff)

This background explains why it was so important to quash the lab leak theory in early 2020 and argue instead that the virus had originated from bats in the Wuhan market, in other words through zoonotic transfer. Emails released under the freedom of information act show how leading scientists were leaning towards the lab leak hypothesis, which could blow the cover of this whole enterprise: ‘evidence of lab tampering meant they were dealing with a potential bioweapon’ (p. 401) – in which case, Dr Fauci told Sir Jeremy Farrar of the Wellcome Trust, they would need to bring in the FBI and the MI5 - which had to be avoided at all costs. Farrar produced the first draft of the paper eventually published in Nature Medicine aiming to disprove any type of lab leak theory and thereby seeking to create a narrative. Farrar told the authors to squelch this theory ‘because it would prove highly embarrassing to them and derail their control of the pandemic response.’ (p. 410) A letter with similar intent was published in The Lancet, and correspondence shows that Drs Baric and Daszak recruited some of the world’s leading and most prestigious virologists, immunologists and biological scientists to sign it. They themselves thought it best not to sign the statement so that it could be ‘put out in a way that doesn’t link it back to our collaboration so we maximise an independent voice… otherwise it looks to self-serving and we lose impact.’ (!!) This is nothing less than self-serving deceit aimed at silencing discussion. Later investigations revealed that 26/27 signatories had links to the Chinese government and the Wuhan Lab (p. 425) and, despite the best efforts of Avril Haines as Biden’s director of national intelligence to obfuscate the matter, the lab leak theory is widely supported.

Among other important themes covered is the role of Bill Gates and his strategic funding of various institutions such as the vaccine alliance GAVI, CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations) and the WHO, all with an emphasis on funding vaccine development as the one and only response to current and future pandemics. He is also heavily invested in the corresponding pharmaceutical companies, as well as giving substantial grants to mainstream media. GAVI, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Wellcome Trust and CEPI worked in tandem to persuade governments towards draconian lockdowns, widespread censorship and coercive mandates to compel mass vaccination, spending almost $10 billion since 2020 to achieve these objectives, ‘including $8.3 million lobbying lawmakers and officials in the US and Europe.’ (p. 434)

It is important to consider the future implications in terms of what the final chapter calls a pivot to permanent preparedness for a pipeline of pandemics. Already, we are being conditioned in advance for the next outbreak either through bird flu or ‘Disease X’, discussed at this year’s WEF meeting in Davos. The key players mentioned above want a Permanent Pandemic Preparedness (PPR) and Response infrastructure, and the impending WHO Pandemic Treaty along with corresponding revisions to international health regulations should be seen in this light as a biosecurity power grab. This takes the public eye off the ball when our focus should be on banning gain-of-function research worldwide and halting the enormously lucrative pandemic gravy train with its accompanying threat of further emergencies justifying authoritarian and autocratic policies that induce public compliance through fear-generating propaganda. There is no mention in these documents of the diversion of resources away from current infectious disease programmes or of advice to bolster immune systems and research into possible repurposed drugs to mitigate fatalities and shorten pandemics. Without an informed public and robust resistance, it is only too likely that the pattern of Covid-19 – its precipitation and response – will be repeated to justify more biosecurity, more gain-of-function experiments and greater government power, as prefigured in the many simulation exercises held over the last 20 years. More importantly, those who orchestrated these machinations should be held to account. A briefing as essential as it is disturbing.
