The Wandering Sage
A charming and instructive book which reminds us of the value of the folk memory embodied in teaching stories. Here the figure of the wandering sage, to be found in most spiritual traditions, is the focus of a series of short tales that embody moral and spiritual values to be passed on down the generations. The selections are from four traditions: Taoism, Sufism, the Celtic and Hasidic traditions. Most of the stories are less than a page long, and he exemplified the capacity of the stage to sum up in and use a situation as an object lesson. The introduction helpfully explains the background and context, which is relatively unfamiliar to many modern people.
