The Time Paradox

The New Psychology of Time That Will Change Your Life

This book brings home the message that our perception of time is a hugely influential factor in our lives. We become more aware of this as we get older and realise the preciousness of the time we have. The authors outline the six time perspectives and provide a self-test to establish your type. These are past-negative, past-positive, present-fatalistic, present-hedonistic, future and transcendental-future. The answers to the test identify sentences characteristic of the attitude or perspective and these are then illustrated with prototypical examples. The book moves on to more detailed considerations in the past, the present and future, then the relationship between terrorism and the transcendental-future. The second part helps the reader make time work in a positive fashion and ranges over decisions, biology, ways of enhancing happiness, time and business, and perhaps most importantly techniques for resetting your psychological clock and adopting a positive view of time. This includes suggestions about how to modify one's attitude and making time matter. There is a great deal of relevant new research here with considerable practical implications.
