The Spirit of Dr. Bindelof

Tells the story of a group of young men in the 1930s who experimented with seance phenomena and experienced a number of features of physical mediumship. The first part is an autobiographical account by Gilbert Roller and includes a number of remarkable episodes including a photograph portrait of 'Dr Bindelof' which features on the front cover and was taken in complete darkness. In the second part, the author covers the history of physical phenomena from the 19th-century and discusses the number of well-known mediums from the 20th century. The book shows that there are many well attested phenomena requiring explanation and the author steers a middle course between credulity and scepticism. I did find her view of the Scole experiments somewhat sceptical but the overall effect of the book points in the direction of a much needed wider science of consciousness.
