The Renewable Revolution

This book brings a holistic perspective to what the author regards as a non-energy crisis involving fuel shortages, rising prices, climate change, nuclear contamination, catastrophic oil spills and energy wars, all of which we have seen in recent times. A quote from Edison - the father of the electrical age - suggests that we should have been focusing on harnessing inexhaustible sources of energy through the sun, wind and tide rather than depleting fossil fuel sources and indeed uranium. The author argues that the age of unlimited and exploitative industrial growth at any cost is over and that we urgently need to make a transition towards a sustainable energy path. This transition will only come about with clearly formulated policy goals and developmental research funding. A series of photographs graphically illustrates the possibilities and helps us envisage a possible future. The author shows that the costs of this transition are relatively low compared with the costs of not undertaking it.
