The Privilege of Ageing

Savouring the Fullness of Life

A well-written and wide-ranging reflection on the many privileges as well as the challenges of ageing. I was struck by two quotations: Lily Tomlin – ‘for fast acting relief, try slowing down;’ and Lao Tsu – ‘doing nothing is better than being busy doing nothing.’ The author points out that one of the greatest gifts of ageing is slowing down, ‘foremost among them doing just one thing of the time and doing it with attention.’ And here is a further key thought: ‘I’m being born to a new way of being and living.’
