The Power

Some readers will have either read and/or seen The Secret - of which this book is the sequel. Rhonda Byrne was set on her course by reading a book by Wallace Wattles written over 100 years ago, which is part of a larger literature in psychology and what is known as the New Thought Movement. Here she elaborates on her message, emphasising the power of love throughout. The book is clearly set out with summary points at the end of each chapter and inspiring quotations set in the text. It explains the crucial role of feelings in attracting and repelling what you want in life and in the creative role that we all play. She also discusses specifically money, relationships and health. I see this as part of a larger understanding of life processes, both spiritual and physical: just as we sow seeds in the physical world, so we do so in our mental and emotional worlds, with corresponding effects. It is a book not simply to read, but to absorb its far-reaching implications. In this sense, it is as important to read inspiring material every day as it is to eat. Here are a couple of reflections on gratitude: 'to use the power of gratitude, practise it. When anything good happens to you in your day, give thanks. The more you feel gratitude, the more love you give; and the more love you give, the more you receive.'
