A study of what thinking people have thought about war and wars covering a great many areas. The main parts considered justice and the just war, the laws of war terrorism, torture and hostages, people in arms, those against war and the nature of patriotism. There are 26 chapters in all, the fruit of a great deal of research. Some of the writing is rather fragmented and seems like extended notes a rather than a sequential argument. However this does not detract from the value of information provided.
