The Northern Enchantment

Norse Mythology, Earth Mysteries and Celtic Christianity

Drawing on the work of Rudolf Steiner, this book explores the archetypal idea of the North by means of a survey of ancient history and Norse mythology as a background to the development of Celtic Christianity. The author is hugely knowledgeable in the field, and also draws on the work of Steiner himself. Few readers will be familiar with the background from Norway. There is also an interesting chapter on the number five and the etheric body, which draws on studies of geographical alignments related to earth energies. There are some striking images from Externsteine relating to the God Vidar overcoming the Fenris Wolf, one of which comes from a Christian context of St Andrews.
