The Mystic Heart: Discovering a Universal Spirituality in the World's Religions
This book has been unopened on my shelf for far too long. I met Wayne in New York in 2000 - he is a lay monk who, like Bede Griffiths, combines the traditions of Christianity and Hinduism as a Christian sannyasin. The book focuses on 'interspiritual wisdom', discussing the various traditions and paths, the practicality of mysticism, the mysticism of the natural world and the emergence of 'global mysticism'. It is a path for head heart and hands, one that puts consciousness and its transformation at the epicentre, ways of transcending the ego level of identity, 'this inner level of development that reaches fruition in selfless love, compassion, mercy and kindness'; and, one might add, wisdom. This is a rich book that repays careful study and contemplation.
