The Law-Science Chasm
Bridging Law's Disaffection with Science as Evidence
Over the years we have organised a number of events at the interface between neuroscience and the law. This technical socio-legal treatise acts as a bridge of understanding between science and the law at a time when expert scientific witnesses play an important role in the legal process and the administration of justice. This raises issues about the nature of evidence adduced and its interpretation. It turns out that epistemology – and especially the nature of knowledge claims - is a crucial area, but it is also important to remember that science is a social enterprise with distinctive sets of philosophical assumptions and corresponding approaches to truth.
