Subtitled 'Being Honest about the UK Presidency', this book is an analysis of political and administrative developments over the last few decades which have led to an increasingly powerful central executive that has tended to downgrade both the Cabinet and Parliament. It remains to see if this centre is overwhelmed by the unintended consequences of complexity and/or by its own publicity machine. The author sees a choice only between the presidency being democratically regulated or unregulated, preferring the former. A stimulating read.
