The Biology of Kindness
This book is a wonderful resource combining the expertise of a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School with that of an expert in the sciences of well-being and mindfulness. Kindness is the common thread of an emerging biology of values that also includes optimism, forgiveness, gratitude and happiness. These attributes are explored in the first part along with the significance of telomeres and many corresponding scientific studies. The second part develops six key strategies to cultivate and develop these values to enable us to live a long, healthy, and happy life. These are the quality of relationships, nutrition, physical activity, meditation, music, and connection with nature. In each case, the underlying science is clearly explained, with many helpful practical tips. Highly recommended for its scientific insights and wisdom from contemplative traditions.
