Studies on Indian Medical History

Annotation / G. Jan Meulenbeld

This is a compilation of papers given at the second workshop of the European Ayurvedic Society held in 1985. The book is divided into three sections on The Classical Tradition, Colonial interactions and Modern observations. This is a scholarly work. The historical narrative is most interesting for those who would like to know more about Indian Medical History and its relationship to European medicine. The chapter on 'Native lunatic asylums' is fascinating and indicates a high level of patient care.
