Quantum Change

When Epiphanies and Sudden Insights Transform Ordinary Lives

This is a book about sudden epiphanies and insights that transform ordinary lives – hence the 'quantum leap' metaphor. The changes described are 'vivid, surprising, benevolent' and bring about enduring personal transformation. The authors' contribution to the field is to distinguish between two kinds of change, insightful and mystical. The first grow out of life experiences while the second are quite out of the ordinary and resemble classic accounts of mystical experience. These are analysed in some detail in terms of both similarities and differences. An analysis of how values have changed in men and women very much corresponds to NDE findings and makes fascinating reading, as do the 'sacred themes' for reflection at the end of the book. This is nicely summed up in an epilogue relating the death of Pastor Ken Eaton, who was asked what should be said at his memorial service. His immediate reply was 'God is real. Life is a gift. We are here to love. This is not all there is'. Profound wisdom, profound simplicity.
