On the Internet

One of the first overall reflections on the Internet and its impact on eudaciton and our self-image. It looks at data and document classification and retrieval, the advantages and drawbacks of distance learning, the problems arising from disembodied telepresence and issues of anonymity vs. commitment. The author maintains that the Net can be useful to us so long as we continue to affirm our bodies in spite of its asymmetric trade-offs of 'economy over efficiency in education, the virtual over the real in our relation to things and people, and anonymity over commitment in our lives.
