Nutrition and Cancer - State-of-the-Art
This is the third updated edition of a succinct and classic book on the subject. Sandra is a molecular biologist who has for the past ten years edited Positive Health, and has made a point of staying abreast of research developments - hence this edition contains a further 23 pages of analysis of papers since 1998. Overall, the book is a comprehensive refutation of the claim that there is no evidence that nutrition plays a role in cancer prevention and treatment, based as it is on the findings of some 5,000 papers published in the last decade alone. However, it is very frustrating, as the author points out, to see how these discoveries are thwarted by established vested interests and how the EU Directive on Supplements is exactly what is not required in view of therapeutic nutrition. The book is comprehensive in its critical coverage of the role of specific vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids in relation to cancer. It also examines dietary regimes and PNI as well as suggesting helpful guidelines for readers. The book is an indispensable guide to a condition which affects us all, whether directly or indirectly.
