Moments of Meeting, Buber, Rogers and the Potential for Public

There has been much interest in dialogue following the interest of David Bohm; and indeed the Network has favoured dialogue over confrontational debate for nearly 15 years. This book tells the story of the 1957 public dialogue between the philosopher Martin Buber and the psychotherapist Carl Rogers. It tells their stories as well as that of the dialogue itself and contains many stimulating reflections on the theme, for instance the characteristics of dialogue: immediacy of presence, emergent unanticipated consequences, recognition of strange otherness, collaborative orientation, vulnerability, mutual implication, temporal flow, genuineness and authenticity. Written in a fairly technical style, this is a book for the specialist but also for those interested in the central characters and their relationship.
