Letter to Earth

Those who have eyes to see and ears to hear know that something unusual may be unfolding on earth. There are many messengers arriving with different versions of the same message contained in 'Letter to Earth'. One neat way of putting this is that 'human perception that is sealed off behind your current consciousness horizon', which is itself a function of our 'local reality system'. This system depends in turn on the range and subtlety of the instruments with which it is perceived. The messengers all experience and assert that human beings are multidimensional and are not restricted to the physical space-time continuum. We limit ourselves through our own thoughts and beliefs but these can be expanded. This book takes the form of a series of letters written from the 'universal dimensions of the soul's reality'. They therefore express an expanded view addressing a more limited one, but this is simply a heuristic device as the Universe is a continuum. It is we who divide it up into categories corresponding to the prevalent dualistic understanding. This is a central theme in the book: understanding one oneness and its implications. How do we move from a system based on separation, division, competition, control and manipulation to one based on integrity, unity, co-operation and support? It is a question of restructuring perception and therefore reprioritising values. Many Network readers already recognise themselves as part of this process as we reorder our lives in this direction. Insofar as we are doing so, we are part of what Elia calls the 'transformational population'. I touched on this theme in my review of Nicanor Perlas's book in the last issue and of Paul Ray's book on the Cultural Creatives in August last year. This population is in the process of self-organising into a powerful movement that will eventually take on a political dimension – indeed it already has in many NGO expressions. This self-organisation proceeds according to what Elia calls 'Sympathetic Vibratory Magnetism', which stems from the view that we are all frequencies within a gigantic Energy-Consciousness system that is wholly inter-related and interactive. So when we sound a note that attracts others, there is a natural resonance and gathering that occurs. This happens first on the inner level and subsequently manifests in the outer world. The old dualistic system (a 'self-limiting archetype', personified as a caterpillar) sees this new movement as an invasive threat when it actually represents a potential transformation of the whole system to a new level.

Elia expresses this process as a transmutation, which has two prior prerequisite phases, namely transition and transformation. The transitional phase is a period of subtle conceptual and energetic change, during which awareness expands, values reorganise and amplitudes of consciousness elevate. The transformational phase enables the subtle changes of the transitional phase to become manifest. 'Purposeful action is taken to form and apply alliances and models that demonstrate elevated amplitudes of consciousness and a new organisation of values'. According to Elia, we are moving into this phase and, as a whole, evolving towards a greater state of integrity or expression of Universal values.

Elia sees part of the science of the future as a characterisation of the frequency of values such as love, integrity, courage and compassion and possible measurement of their amplitude. This means that values have an objective existence and are potentially measurable, which would be a significant advance on woolly and indeed nihilistic post-modern relativism. We already know that absolute values are encountered as a state of being in mystical and near-death experiences, but, as Elia points out, they are perceived in terms of meaning rather than measurement and are therefore thought to be subjective. Perhaps a reader already knows of such a device that could be used for research.

A unitive perspective sees control and power aspirations on a continuum of levels of consciousness and love. It does not impose duality but rather realises that there are levels of knowledge and ignorance. Using up the satisfactions of power naturally leads to a desire for love. So that people who are perpetrating destructive patterns are those who have not yet aligned themselves with Universal values: 'inversion, misalignment and unconsciousness are all within the tolerances of the Universe and embraced within Universal love'. This is reassuring! According to this view, the whole system is moving in the direction of wholeness, coherence (a key idea), integrity and love, and initiatives embodying these values will gradually attract more energy and momentum. There is also a transfer of authority from outer dependence to inner-directedness. Our current situation, according to the book, involves a turning up of the 'amplitude' of our consciousness frequency as well as a decrease in the Earth's magnetism (more scientific correlation is required here). This means an increasing understanding of inter-relatedness and complexity but the same amount of time is available to process this increased information. Hence it adds to the overload already imposed by the speeding up of our communication systems. We therefore need to find a new rhythm from the inside, allowing time for being as well as doing.

There is an excellent letter on education. There are some interesting observations on fairy tales inducing a dualistic mind-set in young people (currently being reinforced by Harry Potter, not to mention the rhetoric of the Bush administration). Nor is the system geared to elicit the soul purpose of the individual or make them believe that their dreams might come true. If we trade our multidimensionality for the mundane, we assure a mundane future for the world, perpetuation a 'cycle of self-limitation'. The essence of education would then become alignment with Universal values. The corresponding transformation of our institutions does not entail dismantling so much as transforming them to higher modes of functioning. Elia finishes with the question: can the transformational population magnetise all humanity into transmutation or expand their own individual and collective consciousness to create an adjunct reality for those ready to leap? The second picture may be a precursor to the first. The point is that we are all involved, both as individuals and in groups; and it is a dynamic process that proceeds from the inner to the outer, from being to action. Elia's book will help readers clarify their own intuitions and inspiration – at least this has been true for me and I sense it will be the same for others as well.
