A first-rate book by a researcher of 50 years standing summarising his work and the conclusions he draws from it. The book is divided into sections on hantings, poltergeists, mediumship and a final discussion. Tony Cornell makes clear from the outset that about 80% of investigations reveal nothing spectacular. In such cases that do, he carefully considers the explanation best suited to the evidence at hand while admitting that there is still no overarching theoretical framework that enables everything to be brought together. He deplores the attitudes and tactics of organised sceptics and patiently insists on the importance of maintaining an open mind.
