by Fiona C. Odgren ✦ Review by David Lorimer, August 2016
The Mahatma Letters to A.P. Sinnett have been a major text for Theosophy for nearly 100 years. They are letters on occult science purporting to come from the Masters Koot Humi and Morya. The author's familiarity with the text has enabled her to produce this thematic compilation covering essential themes from this correspondence relating to the hidden history of civilisation, the subtle nature of the human being, the nature of the spiritual path and the underlying structures of life. Many chapters are relatively short but they do plunge the reader into an intense discussion informed by an unfamiliar view of the world. As such, I suspect that they may be more useful to the student of Theosophy than to the novice, although there is a good glossary. The whole gives a broader and deeper view of human life and the rigours of embarking on serious spiritual practice.
