How to Get out of this World Alive
Alain Forget is French spiritual teacher with students in Paris and London. His experience led him to an understanding of Advaita where he realised that he was neither his thoughts nor his emotions, but was beyond any psychological entity. In this penetrating book, the author outlines his theory of human nature and provides exercises to move beyond the state of fear and guilt which he argues arises from the very process of birth. The edifice of personality is built on resistances, but the freedom coming from self-knowledge can take us beyond frameworks and systems of belief, as has been exemplified by pioneering spiritual masters through history. The kernel of his teaching is what he calls the four Ds: distanciation, discernment, disidentification and discrimination. These are explained in detail, with further elaboration in a lengthy question and answers section. At the end, there is a chapter with short biographies and selected texts from great teachers. The book is a source of profound insights and a primer for the advanced development of consciousness.
