How Many People are There in my Head and in Hers?

Attenders at our recent Roads to Reality conference will have heard Jonathan Edwards give a 10-minute outline of his thesis in this book. It is an exploration of single cell consciousness, proposing that each nerve cell is conscious simply and that we have no other global consciousness in other words, 'we are colonies of sentient microorganisms, each, unaware of the sentence of the others, led to believe that it is 'me'.' Edwards is well versed in the neurobiology, and does not think that the binding problem can be solved in the normal way by postulating either a unitive self or soul. For him the self is simply a story in the brain. Highly provocative and original, this book will certainly stimulate debate.
