Hippocrate, Réveille-Toi, La Médicine Agonise

I reviewed the author's previous book on transhumanism or spiritual awakening in these pages a couple of years ago. In this new book, he argues for a humanistic medicine, especially in the light of the Covid crisis and the way in which it – and we – were handled by the dominant/dominating medical-political-economic system. His hypothesis is that medicine is very unwell and needs to be rescued from the technocratic grip in order to re-introduce the personal art of healing and therapy to accompany the science of medicine. Underlying all this is the question of the nature of the human being and our relationship to technology – the human being needs to be appreciated in all dimensions and at all levels. Readers will learn about policies in France – but also elsewhere – for instance the disgraceful treatment of Prof Didier Rouault. The author calls passionately for a conceptual and practical revolution in medicine so as to save its soul by transcending the limitations of what William James called medical materialism, also in its scientific underpinning. He argues for the centrality of inner experience and spiritual practice. Essential reading for anyone interested in the future of medicine and who can read the language.
