Entering the Narrows – Selected Poems
This is an exquisite book of poems, which I highly recommend. Jehanne is a singer and songwriter as well as a poet, and here she combines deep appreciation of nature with corresponding inner processes. The poems are gathered into 10 thematic sections, and as Adam Horovitz writes in his foreword, ‘Poems of Putin, deeply focused observation sit alongside elegies and poems of ecospiritual intensity and need. Here are three separate representative stanzas:
This warm sun filled silence is overflowing with listening, You know you were seen, heard, welcomed. There is a questioning in the hot summer air, a velvet curiosity: What is your intent? Do you come here to meet us?
Do we dare to be transparent, fired with the many dimensions of love? Do we dare to be transparent in this fire, flame feathered like the phoenix?
The changes are subtle but noticeable: celandines, snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells all out at once, but the tree leaves are slow still wedded to the old patterns.
