Democracy, Fascism and the New World Order

As the grandson of Sir Oswald Mosley, Ivo Mosley has a special interest in the relationship between power and freedom, which forms the leitmotif of this study. Ideally, he argues, democracy is 'not just government by the majority, but self-government by all the people', which implies a great deal more decentralisation than is now the case. The author considers the history of democracy in relation to other political systems over the last 150 or so years, introducing an analysis of a 'new world order' involving both corporations and the corporate state, both of which try to subsume other sectors of society in their agenda. The prospect of a war without end is not a good one for freedom, as Mosley points out by quoting a belligerent vision from the notorious document Project for a New American Century. The price of freedom is certainly eternal vigilance.
