Democracy and the Fall of the West

A controversial and stimulating book arguing that modern democracy is actually leading to a new tyranny, and that the concept of a liberal democracy is in fact a contradiction in terms. The authors contend that the democratic process has led to the growth of the state in the form of democratic socialism and therefore to a curtailment of individual liberty. They see liberalism under the rule of law is the vital component of Western success. Their vision is of a liberal form of governance that curtails the power of the state. Here freedom of expression is essential for the kind of creativity characteristic of forward-looking societies.
