Day by Day with the Master

As many readers will know, I have been studying and following the teaching of Peter Deunov for 40 years. In this new compilation, my old friend Milka Kraleva has produced a precious resource for inspiring daily consultation. This book has joined a number of others for my daily breakfast reading and reflection. On August 10, we read from August 18, 1935 (certainly in the camp in the Rila mountains) “The only path that leads to life is Love. The only path that leads to knowledge is Wisdom. The only path that leads to freedom is Truth.” This is the essence of his teaching, to be understood and applied. These principles do not constitute a propositional belief system, but rather universal foundations for a good life dedicated to the common good. From yesterday, we read from August 18, 1940 (during the war) “Love does not tolerate any violence. It is willing to give everything voluntarily, but not through violence. Where there is violence, there is no Love.” This is a lesson that humanity has yet to learn, caught as we collectively are in vicious cycles of revenge and retribution. The important point for us individually is our inner orientation, and compilations like these can greatly help us in this respect.
