CONSCIOUS ACTS OF CREATION

THE EMERGENCE OF A NEW PHYSICS

The appearance of a new book by William Tiller has to regarded as something of a special event. Following the publication of his earlier ground breaking work - Science and Human Transformation, Subtle Energies, Intentionality and Consciousness, one can only hope that any new publication will at least live up to, if not exceed expectations. The reader will not be disappointed with this later publication. Together with two of his former research students, he offers us a bevy of experimental data enticing the reader to reproduce and make practical use of the results obtained. The focus again is on the holy grail of Science today. How do we integrate the concept of Consciousness into the current paradigm? Many would claim we should not even try; others insist it is the only way ahead. Tiller makes a very strong case for the latter approach. After an initial review of the state of art identifying primarily the philosophical aspects of where to look in physics for possible sources of a mechanism, he soon immerses us in the world of experimentation. These are the key new results aimed not only at the sceptical mainstream professionals but also those with backgrounds in health care needing some insight into the origin of human qualities of emotion, mind and intention. A key target audience he claims is also the younger group of college graduates who at least seek opportunities to questions the wisdom of their teachers and hopefully in due course begin to embody some metaphysical concepts into their world view. The broad experimental protocol used in the experiments involves using several meditators to `programme` - Tiller uses the term imprint, an electrical device with a specific intention. These devices can then be taken to a remote location where their re-programmed properties are located close to target experiments. Needless to say, the usual control procedures are invoked. So what are the target experiments? Tiller deliberately uses simple experimental scenarios. Firstly, the pH of water is significantly altered (0.5-1.0 pH) by using relevant imprinted information in a co-located device. Additionally there are similar effects on the liver enzyme Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) generating enhanced activity. Also use of these programmed devices accelerated the development of fruit flies. There is also a residual oscillation effect exhibited by water which not only varies in pH but undergoes cyclical changes in temperature, electrical conductivity and DC magnetic polarity. The devices used to store the imprinted intentions (Intention Imprinted Electronic Device-IIED) are in principle nothing special. They consist of simple oscillators in several bands up to 10 MHz coupled to Electronically Erasable Programmable Read only Memory. Power is minimal and they are physically located a few inches from the target experiment. The meditators mentally cleansed the devices for a few minutes before imprinting specific intent in the devices. This process lasted around a quarter of an hour. The devices were then deemed ready for shipping to the experimental location. The book devotes whole chapters to results obtained using techniques such that repeatability is greatly encouraged. The four experimental areas may be summarised as 1) Water Studies. 2) In Vivo Fruit Fly Studies. 3) In Vivo Enzyme Studies. 4) Locale Conditioning Studies. The convincing data presented leads one instinctively to ask – if this is really happening, then what possible physical mechanisms could be involved? Although a gentle introduction to relevant perspectives in physics is presented early on in the book, the meat of the theoretical discussion is delayed until the later chapters. In fact the last four chapters provide a comprehensive framework for discussing possible new paradigms providing a detailed treatment of the required physics. A wave interpretation on Quantum Mechanics is used based on the concept of R-space; this is effectively a spatial frequency. The particle interpretation is not however forgotten and the analogous D-space interpretation is retained where appropriate. It is from now on that the theory steps into little trodden territory. The etheric field of the human is postulated to be describable in terms of magnetic monopoles such that the magnetic monopoles of R-space generate magnetic dipoles in D-space while a similar reciprocal relation holds whereby electric monopoles in D-space generate electric dipoles in R-space. Much is made of this reciprocal space and a large section of the book is devoted to the mathematical connections between the two spaces. Fourier Transforms are used to describe the process. Throughout the book, several key processes are introduced into the discussion of a possible mechanism in a rather ad hoc fashion. Needless to say, the as yet unknown but suspected enlightening properties of the Quantum Vacuum receive some attention. The symmetry properties of space and how they relate to gauge properties in general are well presented. The R-space, D-space multi-dimensional discussion is found to closely link to the latest work of John Wheeler in this topic area. An obvious question is how does this all relate to the existing well established equations of Maxwell describing how energy is transmitted as an Electromagnetic Field? Different versions of Maxwell`s equations are postulated for R-space and D-space. In principle the electric vectors are exchanged for the magnetic vectors and vice versa. Similar re-formalisations of Maxwell have been previously proposed to account for anomalous behaviour, such as those of Inomata. This one defines D-space in terms of the particulate, electric nature of positive mass and energy travelling slower than the speed of light. By contrast the R-space is defined as wave like, magnetic in nature of negative mass travelling always faster than light. In terms of applications of the proposed theory, there is a clear need to describe how the water as the holder of the imprinted information becomes imprinted with the patterning information. As with other investigators, the ordering of the H-bond network is considered vital to the process. It is hypothesised that empty H-bond cages are produced which closely match the exact conformation of the D-space bio-molecules. In terms of communication between separated water vessels, it is suggested that vacuum fluctuations are induced by R-space activity which is deemed largely independent of the original D-space position where the original imprinting took place. These long range effects clearly need explanation under the umbrella of Quantum Mechanics. Despite recall to the ubiquitous Double Slit experiment with all its ramifications, the authors plead a state of inadequacy in their current model to correctly describe the crucial non-local factors observed in their experiments. They do offer readers the challenge of undertaking a more complex three slit experiment, if one feels inclined to move from the armchair to the laboratory! All this now leaves us with the problem of assessing this book. In terms of their objectives, one clearly sympathises with the authors` dilemma of trying to present a very different perspective on science from that we currently are constrained to teach in our academic institutions, certainly in The West. The standard method of presenting peer reviewed papers is in this case not an acceptable way forward. The appeal of a book should therefore be to as wide an audience as possible. Their aspirations and what they present are however somewhat incompatible. The book is not for the casual reader – in fact the background needed really to appreciate the significance of its contents is substantial. A very good grounding in the fundamentals of Quantum Theory together with a broad brush appreciation of a range of topics from Bioscience to Spirituality is more than advantageous to digest the underlying message. Despite the comprehensive nature of its contents, there is some imbalance between the treatment of various contributing factors. For example, whereas the reciprocal nature of D-space and R-space using the Fourier technique is very well elaborated, there is only passing mention of how the meditators` brain functioning could be involved. The work of Pribram receives an honourable mention. Again the importance of superconductivity as a process or how it may influence long range coherence is glossed over. There are many topics which are not even mentioned. One can cite entanglement or quantum computing as explicit subjects whose underlying process closely map this work. Again, only passing mention of other well researched areas such as Radionics or Transcendental Meditation is made. There are also other interpretations of what intent means in relation to Maxwell`s formulation of communication. If the reviewer may be permitted a comment of a personal nature, in his own research into non-locality using dowsing as the experimental topic, intent is central to engaging with remote information. The latest results suggest that the brain process re-gauges space itself such that potentials, in particular the magnetic vector potential, become all important as Bohm and indeed Tiller have suggested. Maxwell already has developed the equations to account for this but they currently lie on the shelf. All this has remarkable similarity with the book`s message, without invoking the need for reciprocal space. However, the above comments are meant to be no more than observations. The key message of the book – the involvement of the experimenter in the experiment and indeed the influence of Conscious Processes on everyday reality is well founded. The real value of the book is the well presented experiments with all details needed to enable others to re-produce the results. This is rare to find in any publication these days but especially in book form. The theoretical framework is more speculative – then no one yet has the full answer, even to a simple interpretation of non-locality. It is to be hoped that the theoretical ideas presented - to be regarded as Work in Progress, will inspire others to continue the research. There is plenty here to engender new approaches. Overall, those wishing to pursue the paradigm shifting topic of re-introducing Consciousness back into Physics will find this book well worth studying. It is also a source of inspiration to all those seeking new ways of interpreting Nature.
