Christian Mystics - Their Lives and Legacies Throughout the Ages

A very clear introduction to the lives and insights of Christian mystics from the earliest period to the modern era. The lives are put in their wider cultural and historical context and all the main figures are included in their own sections; others are mentioned in introductory passages. Modern mystics featured include Thomas Merton, Simone Weil, Teilhard de Chardin and Henri le Saux. Arguably Fr. Bede Griffiths might have merited his own section and Thomas Keating and Laurence Freeman a mention. However, this is an excellent book for the reader new to the field and a good refresher for those more familiar.
