This book gives a very clear and thorough overview of Buddhism. Part one presents the historical framework. Part two describes the practices and principles of Buddhism. Part three concentrates on the holy writings and scriptures. Part four gives an account of Buddhism today. The book's general editor, Kevin Trainor is Associate Professor of Religion at the University of Vermont. The other contributors are Mark L. Blum, Assistant Professor of East Asian Studies at the State University of New York. David W Chappell is Professor of Comparative Religion at the Soka University, California. Todd Lewis is Associate Professor of World Religions at Holy Cross College, Massachusetts. John Peacock is Director of Sharpham College of Buddhist Studies in England. Michael Willis is Curator at the British Museum. The book is written with deep knowledge and insight into one of the world's large religions and illustrated with over 150 magnificent colour pictures that illustrate Buddhist practice and ritual as well as Buddhist inspired art in the form of painting, sculptures and temples and monasteries.
