Biology and Theology Today

This is an excellent and accessible book on the interfaces between biology and theology. The central issue is the nature and implications of genetic engineering, but this discussion is framed with considerations about the history and practice of science. The author contrasts the scientistic reductionism of Richard Dawkins with the holistic and ecological approach of Barbara McClintock and has good chapters on Gaia theory and its implications as well as on feminist horizons in science. She considers both theological and ethical dimensions of genetic engineering and foresees a future science in which there will be more open dialogue with the humanities, calling for a rediscovery of the Wisdom tradition. A very balanced book.
