Biological Motion – A History of Life

This is a searching technical study on the foundational relationship between motion and life, going beyond both mechanistic and vitalist approaches, where the former has focused on DNA structure and function. The author recounts the history of biology through the prism of motion, tracing it from Aristotle onwards to argue that movement reveals life, and should not be subsumed under behaviour.
