by John Fletcher ✦ Review by Gunnel Minett, August 2003
Dr John Fletcher is a consultant Egyptologist at Harrowgate Museum as well as a writer. In this book she focuses on how ancient Egyptian, culture and mythology is expressed in art and architecture. Central themes of the book are the most well-known myths and enigmas surrounding old buildings such as the pyramids, the statues and old temples.
Both historical facts and myths are presented in a way that links the many high quality illustrations in the book. The hieroglyphs, other old inscriptions and images, jewellery and other artefacts are explained both in terms of their underlying historical and spiritual significance and symbolism. In short this is a book for people interested in art as well as Egyptian culture or religious history.
