The Metaverse of Consciousness – Mapping the Multiple Dimensions of Reality

This book follows up from Tantric Psychophysics, reviewed last year. Its underlying premise is that the universe is full of life and consciousness in multiple dimensions, where metaverse is defined as our four-dimensional space time, plus the additional seven dimensions discovered through high energy experiments in quantum particle physics. It contains a very good summary in the introduction as a guide to the rest of the book, which comes at its theme from eight interdisciplinary angles. The four main parts address the hidden dimensions of consciousness, the psychophysical metaverse, hyperphysics of the noosphere, and subquantum consciousness, combining theoretical with experiential approaches.

The five main thinkers covered are Gustav Fechner, CG Jung, Teilhard de Chardin, David Bohm and Karl Pribram – these last two were honorary members of the SMN. Fechner has been unjustly neglected, though he was the topic of a recent article by Charles Fox in these pages (PE 141). Much of the exposition is based on his book The Little Book of Life after Death, and comments from the introduction by William James, who writes ‘His belief that the whole material universe is conscious in diverse spans and wavelengths, inclusions and developments, seems assuredly destined to find a school that will grow more systematic and solidified as time goes on’ (p. 84) – maybe that time is now. Jung’s work is analysed in terms of an energy frequency range of consciousness, with really interesting diagrams.

As with the previous book, I found the treatment of Teilhard’s hyperphysics quite captivating, and here the author draws on many different sources, explaining his highly original idea of centro-complexity and centrogenesis, where some of the terms also reminded me of the work of Walter Russell in speaking of radial and tangential forces. Teilhard likewise adopted a dynamic multidisciplinary approach (p. 152), and his science is equally incorporated in his mysticism. (p. 165) The Fourier transform is shown to play a crucial role in the relationship between dimensions. A chapter is devoted to the Pribram-Bohm holoflux theory, where the Fourier transform mediates between experience and information through consciousness, and the non-local Bohmian implicate order is situated beyond the Planck length (pp. 228, 231). This is an important contribution to a new philosophy of physics linking space with hidden dimensions.
