Who Chose the Gospels?

Probing the Great Gospel Conspiracy

In the wake of the Dan Brown books and other arguments about the origin of the canonical gospels, this book seeks to set the record straight by asking the question, who chose the gospels? Contrary to common assumptions, the four canonical gospels became pre-eminent during the second century, and it is impossible to attribute this to any single individual, although Irenaeus is frequently cited. The author uses the metaphor of natural selection to explain how these gospels achieved their position. So the process cannot be simplified into a theory involving a conspiracy of fourth century bishops. A scholarly and instructive read.
