Life and Mind

This series of essays seeks to widen the physical basis of biology by postulating a biofield as originally advocated by Hans Driesch and later Alexander Gurwitsch but also recognised by Schrödinger. The researchers writing in this volume are mainly from Russia and the United States, and the intent is to suggest ways of developing a new physics that would include life and mind. The initial three essays discuss the biofield control system, the middle section reports the number of observations of effects at the cellular and molecular level and communication between living organisms and between organisms and cells that have been removed (Cleve Backster). The third part includes essays by Hal Puthoff on the co-emergence of physics and metaphysics, and the need for a new physics and biology that includes consciousness. The book is aimed at biologists, biochemists, biophysicists and physicists - it is therefore relatively technical but contains some cutting edge material.
