The Healing Power of Celtic Plants
The author's scientific background with a doctorate in medicinal plant chemistry equips her well to understand the basic elements of healing plants. Her quest began after she had moved to Wales and found that there was a tradition dating back to the Celts, whose lifestyle was robustly healthy, based as it was on drinking large amounts of spring water, eating fresh food and taking plenty of exercise. In addition, they made extensive use of herbs in their plant medicine. The author documents the major medicinal plants after introducing the lifestyle of the Celts. The 25 or so plants will all be familiar to the reader, but most of the detail will be new in terms of history, botanical description, growing conditions, chemistry and practical use. There is even a note on side-effects, toxicity and contraindications. This book will be of most interest to practising herbalists but will appeal to the general reader interested in the therapeutic use of plants.
