Meditation Training for Practical People

This book is based on a meditation workshop given by Charley at the Tucson Consciousness conference in 1998. As such, it retains a live and colloquial feel, with all the hallmarks of a vintage presentation - lucidity, self-deprecating wit and full engagement with his students, whose questions form an integral part of the text. The book opens with an introduction in which Charley explains that he soon learnt not to equate science with scientism, religion with spirituality and belief with direct experience. The three main practices featured are concentrative meditation, Vipassana and Gurdjieff's self-remembering. The practical emphasis of the book serves as an antidote to what Charley confesses is his 'thoughtaholic' condition of filling the head with new ideas - I am sure some readers will recognise this in themselves!
