The Essential Guide to the People, Places, Events, and Symbols of the Order of the Temple
by Karen Ralls ✦ Review by David Lorimer, August 2007
This is an authoritative guide to the people, places, events and symbols connected with the order of the temple by the author of The Templars and the Grail. Drawing only on contemporaneous sources up to the 14th century, the Encyclopaedia covers alphabetically every aspect connected with the order, with many cross-references enabling the reader to connect more information together. This year sees the 700th anniversary of the sudden arrest of knights on Friday, October 13, 1307. The book is amply illustrated with black-and-white photos, mainly of buildings connected with the order. There are also a number of useful appendices: a chronology of events, a list of grandmasters and popes, charges against the Templars and a selected list of Templar sites. There is also a comprehensive guide to recommended reading. Anyone with a serious interest in the Templars will want to have this book in their library.
