Doing Nothing - Coming to the End of the Spiritual Search

In view of the title of this book, it is ironic that the first version of my review disappeared from the screen while I went over to the house. This is a highly provocative autobiographical account of the author's spiritual quest which leads him to the conclusion that the search itself is a means of evasion. Seeking prevents finding, the ego blocks self-realisation, the questioner may obscure the answer; the self must realise its ground in emptiness. Here is a sample of the book's laconic style: 'the question that life brings us is the movement of life itself, intrinsically dynamic, uncertain, and vital.' 'we may say that the world is illusion, but it is the viewer that is an illusion.' 'Enlightenment is a myth because the self is a myth.' 'A teacher is our projection, the reflection of last year, anxiety and laziness.' And, almost in a Wittgenstein mode: 'Where the question is present, there is no place for the answer to rest.'
