The Oxford Companion to the History of Modern Science

This volume is everything that one expects of an Oxford reference work, with over 600 entries by more than 200 authors. At the beginning of the book is a very useful thematic listing of entries that enables readers to understand the structure of the work and pursue a line of enquiry. The major divisions are the historiography of science, organisation and diffusion of science, the body of scientific knowledge (epistemology and methodology, cross-cutting concepts, subject divisions, theoretical constructs), apparatus and instruments, uses and finally biographies of major scientific figures.
