Although the subtitle of this book is 'the race to build the clean car of the future', one sometimes has the impression that the industry is making haste slowly, unsure of the demand and therefore the competitive advantage in getting there first. The author recounts the history of the petrol engine and its fatal emission and efficiency flaws then interviews all the major research and manufacturing players. The smart money is on fuel cell technology rather than compressed air and the first commercial vehicles appear tantalisingly close – maybe next year or the year after. Highly informative.
