Beyond the Mind

How the Mind and the Body Shape Each Other

This is an original and challenging book about the true and deeper nature of the mind and its unfolding in evolutionary psychology. It is important to understand and keep in mind the author's definition of the mind as 'an infinite communications network…originating in non-physical dimensions…a passageway through which form-shattering thought energy travels endlessly from higher to lower dimensions…' The brain is connected through the 'mind tunnel' (a fascinating link with the NDE) with all possible dimensions of intelligence. However, since physical dimensional reality is its limiting factor and we are conditioned by historical memories, it makes it hard for current thinking to reach the true origins of mind and hence achieve a multi-dimensional understanding of life. This is what the author provides in this book, and it has many resonances with my own intuitive understanding. The various chapters provide different takes on the same basic theme, which reinforces the reader's understanding but also makes for a degree of repetition that requires further editing, hard though that task would be. The author has much to say on thought pollution, the astral influences coming through the drug culture and the dangers as well as opportunities arising from interest in occult matters and stresses, like Jung, that the development of a stable point of individuality related to these multidimensional realms is a key task in the evolution of consciousness. This means reaching beyond the purely personal to a wider understanding. The final chapter urges us, like Advaita, beyond the intrinsic duality of the rational mind towards a greater degree of psychological maturity; also to step beyond the ego, itself 'the summation of all psychological attitudes that block out its multidimensional experience' . The book is not an easy read but repays close study and will expand the horizons of readers prepared to take the trouble.
