Rogue Messiahs: Tales of Self-Proclaimed Saviours
A roller coaster ride through one of the more exotic strands of the history of the last 300 years in which Colin Wilson examines the foibles, power mania and self-deception of some 25 rogue messiahs right up to the present day. The pattern of projection onto an all-powerful leader is a deep-seated one that is present to a large degree in all world faiths so it is not surprising that people seek live examples and run into corresponding trouble when the saviour fails to deliver. However, Wilson does recognise genuine aspiration towards an intensified consciousness - the search for gnosis, however, requires deep commitment and self-responsibility.
