Sermon from the Compost Pile

Subtitled 'seven steps toward creating an inner garden' this is a profound book exploring the parallels between the inner and outer realms by means of the garden (paradise) analogy and the various parables that it suggests. The author bought a piece of land in the late 1970s and has turned it into his own paradise. Light, heat and soil all play their part, with soil being compared with character and ideas with seeds. Humility is required in the composting of old ideas and we are tested by pests in various forms. Gardening uses the forces of nature to establish order and harmony, but the greatest organising force of all is love. An inspiring book for contemplative reading.
